IMPACT OF DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION IN INDIA

With the establishment of Universities of Calcutta, Bombay, Madras back in 1857, the higher education in India was considered to have its beginning back in the 19th Century. Though after independence a more comprehensive system of education for all the people in several parts of the country came into being on a large scale. Department of Education which changed to the Human Resources Department was formed at the centre to serve the needs of educating the masses. Education became the primary goal to achieve the socio- economic development, political and cultural progress of the country on a large scale. Education became a priority with the onset of the 20th century, though much needs to changed within the education sector of the country.

The planning commission of India stressed upon the needs of the Universalisation of the Elementary Education within the country so that the complete system of education becomes beneficial to the nation. There are several schemes launched in order to improve the education status of the individuals such as Mid-Day Meal scheme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, DPEP, TES, among several other schemes by the government. With the onset of these schemes, undoubtedly massive needs of millions of children of primary education have been met, a lot still needs to be done.

The progress of enrolment needs to be examined in order to understand the magnitude of the spread of the policies and programmes within the country. Infrastructural facilities of the schools and colleges needs to be well taken by the authorities so that all around development of the children is seen like in sports, dance, music and several other extra curricular activities. The affiliation of the schools and colleges must be well managed as this would lead to better administration of the quality of education being imparted to the individuals. Effective methods of teaching and evaluation should be taken care as knowledge should expand by heaps and bounds throughout the length and breadth of the country. The evaluation system should be continuous and convenient to both the teachers as well as the students. Teaching and evaluation should go on side by side. Transparency within the education system is the need of the hour. Better management practices should be followed in order to achieve high standards within the education sector. Also, the coming up of new professional courses by several private organisations and agencies needs to be involved in the mainstream so that it inspires and encourages students to take up the course of their choice among the several options.

Education is a great way to ensure the local, regional and national development and thus must be seen effectively in order to bring the fundamental changes that would uplift the educational system within the country which would lead to socio-economic, political and cultural progress of the country.
